MidSouth FC Year in Review from the Director of Coaching: As the spring season comes to an end several coaches and I were reflecting on the year and the progress the club is making. Below is a summary of the year and the major accomplishments that were discussed.
For the first time in several years the club had 3 boy’s teams qualify for the division 1 state tournament – the 01 U16 boys, the 03 U14 boys, and the 04 U13 boys. We feel these teams have much potential and have a great chance to improve on this in the years to come. As many youth coaches say,
“It is a marathon not a sprint.”
We had over 25 players selected to the Tennessee and Mississippi State ODP teams and will be attending Region III ODP Trials this July in Alabama with a chance to make the Region III ODP Teams. The Olympic Development Program is an elite identification program used by U.S. Youth Soccer to help identify the top players around the southeast and help give those players more opportunities for development.
The club had 2 players, Sam Cagle and Luke Ricketts, who were selected to attend the National Futsal I.D. Camp in Kansas City this summer. These players will get to train with some of the top futsal players in the country with U.S. Futsal National Team Coaches. Through our coaches’ network we had 2 players, Kasdin Hale and Luke Ricketts, invited to train with the FC Dallas developmental academy team. FC Dallas has one of the top youth academies in MLS and is has a reputation of having many home grown players become professionals.
We had several players have very successful high school soccer seasons. Not only did we have many of our underclassmen playing or starting varsity for their respective high school teams but also Carsten Haddad and Max Martin were state finalist with St. Georges. Carsten Haddad was selected to the West Region All-Tournament Team.
We have several players from each of our U18 boy’s and girl’s teams sign letters of intent to play college soccer. From our U18 boys team Nick Roberts will be playing at Northwest College and Josh Rosario will be playing at Union University. From the U18 girls team Jasmine McGill will be playing at Delta State University, Abby Blackford and Terri Brown will be playing at the University of the Ozarks. This brings the number of MidSouth FC players to reach the college soccer ranks to over a 1000 players!
On the girl’s side the club has hired Matt Williams as the girl’s Director of Coaching. Matt also is in the process of receiving his USSF A license which will bring the number of A licensed coaches in our club to 3, more than any other club in the area.
MidSouth FC has always felt that international travel is very important in a soccer player’s development but also as a young person helping their overall education and appreciation for different cultures. Our U15 girls team will be travelling to Holland this July to train with the world-famous Ajax youth academy staff, play several games against European competition, and attend the Women’s European Championships.
The club has invested much time and money into MidSouth Park so the facility continues to look better and the teams continue to have a better playing surface to train on each week. We have purchased more equipment such as mannequins and soccer tennis nets to help improve the quality and diversity of our training sessions.
In closing the coaching staff is very excited about the future of our players and the improvements and work that we are all putting in on the field and off. We ask our members to help spread the good word and good experiences your kids are having while playing with the club to your friends and contacts throughout the community. We look forward to another great year and continuing to see our players reaching higher levels.
See you on the field,
Executive Director and Director of Coaches
