What are MidSouth FC Tryouts?
Tryout Sessions are a process of evaluation and placement conducted by the MidSouth FC coaching staff. We believe that kids grow, develop, and learn at different speeds; therefore, the coaches do not categorize any players at tryouts to lock into teams for the following year. The coaches prefer to train them together and allow each player to progress at their own pace to encourage their development.
Why Does MidSouth FC use age-group player pools and how do they do it?
The coaches prefer this unique approach to training age groups together which allows players to progress at their own pace and encourages their development without being limited to just an individual team. This is especially important with younger players.
With more mature age groups, we also believe that competition makes players better, increases their commitment, and opens up levels of development. Players will find competing on regular basis will allow themselves to achieve a higher level of play. In certain age groups, u14 and older, we do separate the players into multiple pools depending on the skill level. MidSouth FC does feel that the more advanced players need to be training and playing together especially as each player grows and pursues their particular goals.

What do I need to bring to Tryouts?
Wear cleats and shin guards. Bring a soccer ball and water. You will be given a number to wear during sessions.
What happens at the Tryouts?
On your assigned day and session, you should arrive 20 minutes early to check-in with your appropriate age group. The coaches will then observe and evaluate the players through drills and game-type scrimmages or small-sided games that will allow players more time with the ball. The coaches want to give each player a chance to perform and play. Each player will have 2 days of tryouts lasting about 1 hour and 15-30 minutes and will be expected at both. There will be time to talk to the head coach or Director of Coaching after each session. Please try to make both days. If there is a conflict or you cannot attend, please call our Club Administrator (901-210-6332) so they can put you in touch with your particular age-group head coach for make-up sessions. Parents are encouraged to attend and observe off the field.
What will happen After Tryouts?
You will receive communication from the club regarding the player’s selection by the club. Offers can come verbally and all will be confirmed by email. With younger age groups, we normally accept all players and place them in their particular age-group pool. For older kids, there may be situations that require cuts due to group size or recommendations by the coaching staff for another direction more appropriate for that player. There will also be a parent/club meeting approximately one week after tryouts to allow a formal introduction to the MidSouth FC coaching staff and club leadership, answering questions and group meeting with your age-group Head Coach. Details of costs, fees, and uniforms will be given to you at this meeting and it is highly recommended that a parent or guardian attend.
