MidSouth FC Coaching Philosophy
MidSouth FC strives to develop players for all levels of play, including high school, ODP, college, professional, or even adult league later in their lives. Our Coaching Staff represents the most experienced and educated coaches in the Mid-South region, whom promote a common playing/coaching style throughout the club, and remain aware of the latest trends in youth soccer player development. We believe in the importance of affording our players with the proper amount of time of training with our coaches in a fun, challenging environment. Similar to philosophies of European Club youth academies, we believe in the importance of a proper training to game ratio. We aim to produce technically proficient and tactically intelligent soccer players, who can play the game in a possession (passing) based, creative attacking style. Thus, our training sessions focus on technical repetition and possession exercises, providing players with opportunities for frequent repetitions with the ball via passing, receiving, and dribbling techniques and exercises. We schedule the proper amount of training sessions on a weekly basis, versus playing multiple games per week or multiple games every weekend. This differs from many clubs whom promote more games and tournaments over player development. We also believe it is important that in game situations our teams build attacks from the back, striving to keep possession of the ball; versus playing a more direct style – punting or kicking the ball long to create offense. This ensures our players get the proper amount of repetitions of passing, receiving, and dribbling in pressure situations. This requires our players to find solutions in order to maintain possession, rather than just clearing the ball long, away from pressure. Our coaches understand that in order to develop confidence and technical skill, they must be patient with our players. Learning from mistakes and wrong choices results in our players’ growth and development. We also value and promote parent education, thus our coaching staff regularly communicates our vision and values to parents throughout the season. We understand that player development is a process, and continuously reinforce this to our players and players’ parents.
In addition to teaching the game of soccer, MidSouth FC seeks to promote sportsmanship and leadership amongst our athletes. Character development is one of our ultimate goals: through emphasizing focus and self-discipline, we hope to teach the idea that accountability and responsibility are necessary life-skills. Midsouth FC players receive a terrific soccer education and also develop values such as teamwork, perseverance, worth ethic, and mental toughness.
We promote a ONE CLUB mentality in which the club leadership, coaches, players, and parents are all part of the MSFC family and move together with the unified goal of providing the best environment for our players to better themselves as soccer players and as people. We welcome you to explore the competitive advantages of having your children participate in our programs, and look forward to you joining the rich heritage of Mid-South Futbol Club.
